Sadly, it would not be summer in California without the frequency of wildfires. California’s 2024 incident archive is staggering. Thank you to the 676 incredible men and women of the San Jose Fire Department who serve our community by protecting life, property and the environment through emergency response and prevention. I will never forget the time we went to In-n-Out for burgers with the kids and the local station walked in with their full gear on, sweat on their brows, fresh from an extinguished brushfire. You could smell the smoke on their uniforms as they walked past us to order their (naturally, free of charge) meals. It’s a tough and dangerous job. We are grateful for their service.
